See title. I had this on several occasions now, the reasons are unknown. My best guess would be zFTP writing a wrong settings value to settings.ini . Only the service does that, and then an older, stable build is "updated".

Ok, I'll investigate this... but it's not much to go on...
- Do you have any more leads?

Not much, except that the other setting don't seem to be affected. It's only this setting changing from "unstable" to "stable".

Does zFTP save its settings upon shutdown? Maybe it occurs if the PC is shutdown too fast and zFTP writes a partially corrupt settings file?

The whole stable/unstable behavior could be taken out of the settings.ini/preferences.ini and be based on a flagfile.

Example: User creates a file UNSTABLE.VER in the settings directory of both the service and admin interface. zFTP checks for these files, and if they are present, follows the unstable branch. If the files are deleted, it reverts to stable branch. A normal install does not contain them.
There could even be additional debug information placed into this file, like # of crashes, last error report sent, hours of online.

It just did it again. But this time, the server administration reset back to stable. It did so right after the zFTPServer service crashed in the mid of an SFTP session (EventID 7034).

Hm, mine seems to have reset to stable as well... Weird thing is, the setting files still say unstable... but update does says I'm up to date and title says unlicensed freeware...
any place else to check for ini files except "%appdata%\zFTPServer Suite\zFTPServer Administration" and "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\zFTPServer"?

I only noticed because it suddenly allowed anonymous users to access my ftp server due to the fact of ip security disappearing Sad

Configuration files are either in the %ProgramFiles% path (zFTPServer in service mode) or in %APPDATA%\zFTPServerSuite (zFTPServer in program mode and the administration).

Oh, look, another instance of zFTPServer refusing to remember a setting.... guess I am not the only one, eh?

Interesting, there was a licence file in my extensions folders, but it was pretty old, so I thought that could not be it. Renaming it to another extention did nothing, but deleting it finally kicked zftp into going back to debug mode... hmmm...

Maybe it was a trial license... Do you still have it?
